Have you been to Ubud? And where have you been while in Ubud? Monkey Forest? Ubud Market?
I've stayed in Ubud before but in the Jln Raya Ubud (main road) near the monkey forest, but after staying at Sunset Hill, I regret ever staying in the main road of Ubud instead of this area before.
The central of Ubud is far more noisy and busy compared to here. Yes central Ubud is full of restaurants and shops, but after a full day of taxi drivers honking and traffic, coming home to rest and enjoying the spectacular jungle view by the pool with the most peaceful surroundings is certainly the best way to spend the rest of your day. And certainly a view like this is not possible if you are not staying at a hill!
Bird view of Sunset Hill - Oh so magical!
Sunset Hill is located just 2 minutes by foot from Campuhan Hill which is listed as the best activity to do in Ubud for free. It's at Bangkiang Sidem, a famous peaceful village in Ubud. While the hotel is situated at the hill, the access to Ubud main road (Monkey Forest and Blanco Museum etc), is actually very easy and near. Expect around 10-20 mins away from Ubud main attractions.
What's better than staying at peaceful and magical hill with an easy access to the city centre? Sunset hill hotel are facing the best view of Woss Kawan River Valley on the west side of Bukit Campuhan.
My villa at Sunset Hill. Don't forget each villa got a personal gazebo too!
The room that I got was villa 1, the room was clean, spacey, more than enough for two people. A nice chair and gazebo in front of the villa too overlooking the beautiful hill. Its certainly a very nice view to wake up to. A king sized bed, hot water, Air-conditioning (not that you really need it in Ubud) and a forest view. This is everything I ever needed for a short weekend getaway. Minimal breakfast but the banana pancake was so good! Filled us enough before trekking at Campuhan Hill and starting the day. The view from the breakfast area was also amazing. Felt so relaxed while sipping my Balinese coffee. What a way to start the day. Morning coffee with this magical view. I don’t believe a lot of people are aware of this area nor this hotel. There were only a few other guests in this hotel. It certainly felt like this beautiful hotel belonged to ours. Which is surprising considering the beautiful view, location and rooms!
Perfect combination. Morning coffee and magical view.
The highlight of this hotel is certainly the magical forest view of Ubud. Something that you wouldn't expected in Ubud. All of my stays in Ubud I have been blessed with beautiful rice fields view. But waking up to a mesmerising forest view is certainly something new!
You can admire this view from anywhere in the hotel. Your gazebo, your bedroom, the restaurant. Anywhere really! But my favourite is certainly from the infinity pool. I could just stay here all day looking up to the view. Can I please stay here forever?
Infinity pool with the view of Ubud's jungle.
Set in a lush tropical Garden, Sunset Hill is surrounded by beautiful ricefields too. Take note of Karsa Spa & Restaurant, it's walking distance from the hotel and it is certainly a favourite! We've been there twice during our 2 nights stay at Sunset Hill. Do take note that the area is very quiet and relatively dark after sunset. So do enjoy golden hour before the sunrise around the area before heading back to the hotel.
Karsa Spa & Restaurant. Definitely a favourite.
When you have finished, visiting Tegalalang Rice Field (Best ricefields in Ubud, you have to see yourself!) that is not a long drive away, Trekking at the Campuhan Hill or swimming at the beautiful infinity pool, I recommend coming to Jungle Fish, the hippest place in Ubud! Luckily its walking distance from the hotel.
Overall the stay was superb. I paid around Rp. 600.000 for my room per night. For the price that we paid, certainly beats small cramp rooms in Seminyak. Friendly staff, peaceful area, amazing view, affordable price, close to attractions, wish I spent more days here! If you have researched similar Ubud hotels near the centre that a similar view (infinity pool, jungle view) you'll know that the prices are much more expensive than this villa.
Tip: I searched from a few website and Agoda was the cheapest for the day that I booked my room for Sunset Hill.
The staff are so helpful for anything you need. Wether its for cooking class, sunrise trekking, bicycling, rafting, massage or airport transfers. I'll definitely come back here to my next visit in Ubud. Trust me, it's a whole new area to explore rather than the central of Ubud!
Ps. Do take advantage of the infinity pool overlooking the beautiful jungle. I took too many pictures there! A weekend getaway to remember.
